Album Review

The EROTIC ELK were formed in 2009, they are from Sweden and this is their second album. And what kind of Electro Pop are they playing? Imagine that you have in your hold APOPTYGMA BERZERK and you’re forcing them to play DEPECHE MODE’s songs but that still wouldn’t describe the feeling the band evokes. I think the closer to that would be if DEPECHE MODE were playing APOPTYGMA BERZERK’s songs. Their Electro Pop has something tremendously appealing; something that would cover the distance from the early 80’s to the present day and will leave you with a feeling of continuity.

‘Monoton’ opens this CD with only monotony, what someone can trace in it would be its lyrics. Love memories inside a club and insights such as “love will turn the pages of the book that writes your life” can be seen as a joke. Yet the song is danceable with its light soft electro pop aspects. It is this aspect that keeps ‘Solitary’ in its place and prevents it from utter collapse. You might think that ‘Rest In Pieces’ has something more brutal at least in revenge mode but no, it is a song about an ordinary guy who has some emotional problems. The CD though despite its lyrical context manages to escalate and reaches to ‘Tonight’ which is without a doubt the best song in this album. Catchy electro pop in 21st century DEPECHE MODE style is not something you should take lightly.

It is surely a striking album, it is an album that shows the skills of its members in writing good songs although you will not care about their depth - after all there is none whatsoever - but they will make you listen to them over and over again.
