Album Review

ELLIPSE is a band consisting of Massimo (vocals, programming, music, texts), Zanto (live drums) and Ö (live E-drums). ‘Verlorene Zeit’ is the 3rd album and was released 11th November 2011. The band can be situated between EBM and Electro/Industrial. Nice beats combined with guitar sounds and - thank god, finally - a singer producing clean vocals which are backed up by female backgrounds. However, when start listening to the album, you immediately get the impression of a TERMINAL CHOICE album (which isn't always a good sign if you ask me). Despite that start there are songs delivering heavy electro sounds such as the following ‘Ich weiß nicht mehr, wer ich bin’. Now, one might think that the rest of the album would be innovative and varied - well, not exactly. The more you listen to the album the more you get bored by the same structure the band is using over and over again.

The songs start off with nice beats, followed by a harsh sounds. However, Massimo tends to drift into a too-well-known Gothic structure á la Chris Pohl. This can especially be found in the German songs such as ‘Zeitmaschine’. Of course, this doesn't instantly mean that the band is not worth listening to but especially when it comes to songs like ‘Bleib bei mir’, the lyrics are just too cheesy in my eyes. Also some creepy sounds are added here and there to make it more scary. This is quite a pity because the way the band is trying to reach their sound is quite good. The songs are danceable and surely guarantee some people on the dance-floor. Nevertheless, the louder the bass doesn't always mean the better the song. Next time, try to be a little more inventive in song structure and lyrics. To sum it up: quite nice for the younger generations entering the gothic scene but probably not something for people who have out-grown bands like BLUTENGEL and co.

Bonjour1 Just by it's cover it needs polishing, but I went to the Record Label Website and it is a very different and sometime strange Record Label. For me only my point of view, it is a Record Label for Freshmen and Sophomores in the Industry but to be positive here, there is always some Gems coming out of those Record Labels and Releases. I wish that Group the best and some improvement. Thanks andTake care!!
