Album Review

Klayton aka. CELLDWELLER had a difficult way. Debts, bankrupt label, studios in bedrooms - that is what he had to come through. Meanwhile, he had a deep faith that he’s doing a right thing, a lot of inspiration and will to continue making music. There are still some troubles, but now he has also a huge army of fans, who also deeply believe in his music. Waiting for the new part of ‘Wish Upon a Blackstar’, which will be released on 27th March 2012 together with Live DVD/ BluRay, there are some nice presents as album of remixes ‘The Complete Cellout’ and the new volume of ‘Soundtrack for the Voices in My Head’.

Today we’ll listen to ‘The Complete Cellout Vol. 01’. On the CD there are tracks which CELLDWELLER’s fans know very good, starting with ‘Shapeshifter’ (from videogame ‘Need for Speed’) through ‘I Can’t Wait’ (‘Wish Upon a Blackstar’ 2005) to ‘Frozen’ (from the debut album ‘Celldweller’). The track were remixed for CELLDWELLER’s DJ set. Since Klayton “can’t do anything simple,” in his own words, he decided to rework all the tracks. “I couldn’t just hit play on a laptop and let it roll,” so Klayton. The only new track on the album is intro ‘The Complete Cellout’. It is just 40 seconds long, but it is enough to get the idea “Where did Klayton found a little Nic Endo?” And so with warlike ‘Let’s Go!’ the journey is started.

Except for remixes which Klayton made himself, there are interpretations from his old friend and since 2010 also a band mate Bret Autrey (BLUE STAHLI), Josh Money, J. Scott G. and others. Since the tracks are supposed to be played in clubs, it is logical that they sound now more danceable and fresh. More over for the BLUE STAHLI’s version of ‘Frozen’, CELLDWELLER shot the video. For those who already miss CELLDWELLER, ‘The Complete Cellout’ will ease the waiting for the new part of ‘Wish Upon a Blackstar’, for all other music lovers this compilation of electro / drum ‘n’ bass / trance tracks will be a great present, as example of a how one makes brilliant work and devotes himself to Mistress Music.
