Album Review

After a single featuring the first song of this new album ‘Für Immer’ by Ria's band EISBLUME, Universal Music is presenting her sophomore full-length effort entitled ‘Ewig’ (Eternal). It comprises of catchy, pleasant songs with good hooks and melodies. What I enjoy here is that although they bespeak of German tradition of pop music they have a more universal appeal, mostly due to its fusion with New Wave elements. The album titled ‘Ewig’ is one of the strongest songs, show-casting exactly that; ‘Schlaflied’ (Lullaby) has great moments on piano with strings, as with all songs it’s emotive without it being overdone or sentimental. ‘Unzerstörbar’ (Indestructible) has some wonderful build up of urgency and also great moments on bass. As the single already promised there’s elegance, beauty aplenty, what’s more than the single shown is also passion. If you despair of nowadays vacuous pop this should convince you it can be done with intelligence and sense of/for beauty in such music. Wonderful album...
