When DEBAUCHERY unleashed their latest piece of Metal to the listeners, the critics turned on them. Shifting towards a Death Metal styled AC/DC was apparently not the best move. However, that has not deterred DEBAUCHERY front man Thomas Gurrath from continuing with his ideal of merging Rock n’ Roll with a heavier sound and still obtaining the same objective. Therefore, he created BLOOD GOD, a band that draws on the very essentials of what made 80s music so outstanding: high pitched vocals that take getting used too, excellent riffs, and tons of sex, sex, and more sex. Perhaps it makes the music cheesy, perhaps it makes it raunchy… whatever the description, it unleashes a sound that pretty much makes a statement about how his creative vision will not be altered by demands from fans or the media. This is proven on BLOOD GOD’S second album ‘No Brains. But Balls!’ The music is intense and Rock filled, very similar to DEBAUCHERY’S earlier works. Traces of AC/DC and ACCEPT are all over the place; once could even call eighty percent of the album a direct clone of such bands. The only track that really stands out in sound that is different from the others is ‘Blowjob Barbie’, with its Country based opening and addition of female vocals during the chorus. Aside from that… every other track is the same and embraces the same topic over and over.

Is this meant to be thought provoking? Not really. The average Metal listener will probably dislike how even though the music sounds pretty cool, the style has almost no redeeming value as far as telling a story or promoting a decent message. Having a few songs about sex and women is great, but a whole album of it tends to get tiring. Of course, the whole stereotype of Rock’n’Roll is embodied in this album and Gurrath knows it and plays it to his advantage. Furthermore, as more of a middle finger to everyone who hated DEBAUCHERY after the shift to Death Metal, he includes a second disc with all the exact same tracks re-recorded with death grunts. The music is instantly changed to Death n’ Roll, emulating sounds like that of SIX FEET UNDER. However, when matching the two discs side by side, listeners will see that there is very little difference between the music. And sometimes the death grunts may end up being preferred to the high pitched shriek of the singing which will probably irritate more than get people excited in the pit. For most Rock fans, this is probably going to sound like rehashed garbage, but to the select few who know DEBAUCHERY history, there’s a bit more going that makes looking into both discs with a more open mind. But, even then one will probably listen to the first three tracks on each disc, know exactly what’s to come, chuckle a bit, and turn it off.
