Album Review

Century Media has undertaken a project of re-issuing some old albums; the nowadays disbanded THE EVERDAWN’s ‘Poems- Burn The Past’ are part of this undertaking. They were active during the 90’s and their sound is quite akin to AT THE GATES with a more Thrash Metal approach. However THE EVERDAWN never got the recognition though they stood at the birth of this brand of Metal, their problem is that the similarity to AT THE GATES is within a far too thin margin, especially if you compare this album to ‘Slaughter of the Soul’. Lack of originality is not to be forgiven if the band is bad or the margin doesn’t exist at all, but this at least is not a case here and thus the album can be enjoyed rather than be tiresome as it is with mere and soulless replicas. Especially as most of the songs have been given a new sheen it deserves at least a listen, and particularly so for songs such as ‘Nightborn’ and ‘The Silent Winter Sky’ which escape the comparison with ATG and come in with some nice leanings towards Black Metal.
