Album Review

For twenty five years of their existence the German based Gothic Rock band GOLDEN APES deserved the legendary status and the title of German NICK CAVE. There is a strong association with that musician and it appears from time to time in different reviews. However, it wasn't an accident, but the musicians really deserved it. At the moment 'Riot' is the last studio album of the band. Already the name of it is intriguing. It is a surprising title for a Gothic Rock band, famous for its melancholic deep and still style. But title give the right impression and mood to the album.

The band manages it to make a real emotional storm, staying in frames of the best traditions of the genre. Deep melancholic vocals Peer Lebrecht – which is one of the firm marks of the band – even if they sound as usually kind of monotonously and measurably monochromatic, they are quite intense and powerful. The arrangements are very bright as well, and melodies are very easy to remember and even to get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. The absolute highlight of the 'Riot' is the track called 'Pieces'. The band managed it to release another classy album, which will be a precious piece of any musical collection, even if you're not a big fan of this genre.
