Album Review

DRONE is a Thrash Metal band from Celle, Germany, formed in 2004. The band released their debut ‘Head-on Collision’ in the year 2007 after touring with DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER and KORPIKLAANI. The follow-up ‘Juggernaut’ hit the stores in 2009. The quartet plays a crude mix of Thrash and Groove Metal with bits of Metalcore (ugh). To my disadvantage there is very little information about the band available, neither from their website nor from the band itself (due to not answering questions via Facebook or reacting at all). Sound-wise the band uses the modern aspects of Metalcore quite often (too often for my taste) but prove that they can write and perform quite nice with songs like ‘Hung and Over’. All in all the noisy side of the material dominates which presses the rating downward. Without the Metalcore typical change of vocal styles in the songs I would give this record a thumbs-up but the way it sounds for the most parts disqualifies it in my eyes (ears). Don`t get me wrong my dear head bangers, if you`re into Metalcore you will most likely be happy as a king to listen to these guys and buy their records but if you`re not just listen to more melodic thrash like HEATHEN or ANTHRAX.
