AKANOID have released already three albums and a compilation. Several records with different solo and side projects in the genres Dance, Electro and Rock can be added to their discography. An EP called ‘100 Burning Guitars’, released simultaneously with their tour with THE CRÜXSHADOWS this year. The EP serves as an appetizer for the second AKANOID full-length ‘War Weed for God’s Dimension’ planned for a spring 2009 release.
Due to its title ‘100 Burning Guitars’, the track rocks away after a short electronic intro sequence. The forceful beats are a treat for every clubber, but it all gets eclipsed by the powerful and convertible voice of Hilton Theisson. On ‘Pain’ the guitars get a more gritty tone, whilst soaring over the teetering rhythms and create the wish to move once again. This special version of ‘Unbreak Me’ with its 11 minutes duration attributes a new meaning to the word “Extended”. You can find acoustic passages as well as rocking parts and experimental electronic interludes, where you can hear how much fun these guys have to make up some nice eclectic beat strings, but also the admirers of Hilton’s chant won’t get a raw deal. Enough vocal parts to fall in love with! Need some down-tempo stuff? No problem, it’s coming with ‘We were Insane’ that’s also borrowing some elements off of the Industrial genre to complement its edgy structures.
‘The Legacy (Expansion Mix)’ would benefit perfectly from a place in a Drum’n’Bass set; just a few vocal samples and chopped melody fragments. If you aren’t into that stuff or Genre it apparently won’t become your favourite track - mine neither. But therefore, ‘Nexx V.2’ is sure to please your ears with danceable, less frantic beats and one of the usual strong vocal performances leading into a hymnal chorus. On ‘Beat off the Heat’ guitars rather take a back seat and step in the background to leave the field to the electronics. I’d call this an ambient-house track.
Actually you’re getting two CDs for the price of one on here as the ‘Nexx EP’ was attached to the original tracklist, which was only available as download for quite some time + you’re getting indie-coloured electronic pop on a high level, so what are you waiting for?
