Album Review

ELLIPSE formed in 2003 and is the electronic one man project of DJ Massimo (Maximillian Wall). In 2006, he released his first musical life sign with ‘Welt aus Papier’ and 2 years later follows ‘Elektro Computer Maschinenmusik’.

That this album in its entirely is dedicated to the danceable department of electronic music gets absolutely clear after you’ve listened through the first racks in a row, but let’s start at the beginning with the opener ‘Revolution is not Dead’ that’s only consisting of casual old-school drum beats and dark melody riffs initially, but then it’s finally time for the willing crowd to shake their bones, when the dance beat kicks in and a lightly distorted vocals appear. Not really innovative, however it will work out well in the clubs. Following in this track’s wake is ‘Sex hat k(l)eine Macht’, a club grenade par excellence but not more. ‘Freethinkerdevice’ however is a bit friskier and incorporates various samples and some little edges into the usual recipe and ‘Licht am Ende der Welt’ even is quite a catchy tune, comes with a short piano melody and a memorable chorus ‘Elektro Computer Maschinenmusik’ works from a full-grown distorted Industrial beat and a synth riff I think I heard somewhere before. The lyrics are words like “Mainboard, Bus, Graphics, Sound Card”. Quite Spartan and not very appealing to me.

Of course it’s not easy to get noticed in a genre which is that much flooded with bands like the industrial / Electro genre is, but the outcome is - regardless of some pleasing tracks - just like so many others and also the lyrics can’t remedy the situation for me.
