Album Review

BLOODY MARY is an Italian gothic metal band that was formed in 2000 and only five years after released the debut album entitled ‘Blood ‘N’ Roll’. In 2007, the formation singed to Italian label Valery Records and this year the new CD called ‘Party Music for Graveyards’ comes out.

So speaking about this upcoming release it’s just a standard example of gothic metal when the typical features of the style show through all the tracks starting from the very beginning. Thus, the opening piece sounds rather interesting and promising for a while when a heavy and solid layer of darkness attacks a listener and further it’s only getting stronger. At the same time, the arrangements are quite energetic and the extensive delivery of the material on the contrary doesn’t allow you to plunge into grief. Although the music isn’t too expressive, rather simple and even seems quite monotonous and gradually you may start getting bored.

As for the vocals there appear strong associations with Jurki69 from THE 69 EYES, especially after ‘Sobibor’; however, there are some differences in the manner of singing. It’s hard to mark out any songs because all of them are equal and unfortunately didn’t impress me much simply passing by. Anyway the cover of ‘Pet Semetary’ of RAMONES is really good, then ‘Better down’ and ‘Somebody to Love’ are worthy to listen to attentively. In general the album is quite plain yet of course definitely qualitative but the only quality is not enough to attract a big audience. Meanwhile I’m sure the band already has many devoted fans who will like the new release for sure.
