Album Review

What happens when two Italian guys meet in Berlin? Of course, due to this inspiring city, they begin to compose own music. But Germany’s capital city is not the only inspiration. Inspired by poetry, cinema, literature, psychology and more EFFTER create their own dark and mysterious sound collages with distorted voices, ruptured by chimes of a piano which carries the appearance of being almost fragile. A glimpse later on EFFTER throws a wall of guitar-sounds right in one’s face. The mergence of that kind of sounds reminds me a little bit of Peter Tägtgren´s project PAIN or on fact NINE INCH NAILS.

But EFFTER follows that way not that consistent. By mixing up a lot of styles (from metal and noise to electro, gabber, etc.), this two young guys try to show their diversity - and what they’re able to do is obviously very impressive for a debut release. In my opinion, EFFTER is a big surprise and very difficult to classify. And exactly that is the chance for further releases. ‘Bilateral602’ convinces with fresh and light-hearted composing and it’s frowning atmosphere that catches the mood of the very last days in a brilliant way. Thumbs up!
