introLive-Music-Hall, Cologne, Germany
10th March 2014
Daughtry & Special Guest Amsterdamn!

More than three years after their last headliner shows in Germany, the band is back in March 2014 for four concerts to introduce their new album ‘Baptized’. Besides Hamburg, Böblingen and Munich, the band was also stopping by in Cologne’s Live-Music-Hall for an energetic show!

Amsterdamn!

Austrian AMSTERDAMN! (“…damn“ like damn!) is a Soul Rock band that say about itself: "We are the Colin Farrell of the music industry." Oliver and Ali already knew each other for some years and played several tours together before they formed AMSTERDAMN! By that time, they wrote RnB songs with "as much dirt as possible". On a trip to Amsterdam with their friend Daniel they decided to play from now on as a trio and Ali changed guitar for bass. AMSTERDAMN! is indeed a very talented young band with songs being based on heavy guitar sounds, decent guitar effects and pushing drum beats. Upon all is the soulful voice of singer Oliver. As a trio, the band is making music since 2012 and currently they recorded their debut album. Before that, they already released an EP as a foretaste for the album to be out in 2014. AMSTERDAMN! is Oliver “Günter” Wimmer (vocals, guitar), Ali Grumeth (bass) and Daniel “Mudi” Mudrack (drums). http://www.amsterdamn.info / https://www.facebook.com/amsterdamn.music

Music & Performance
The hall was already packed when the three guys entered the stage. Even though it was not announced as sold-out before, it must have been at least close to. Well, being crowded like that, the three guys of AMSTERDAMN! got a very warm welcome when they started with ‘Give it up’. The sound was really energetic, reminding a little of bands like GOOD CHARLOTTE or BLINK 182 while Oliver’s voice had a touch of SNOW PATROL. The drum play had a very prominent role in the songs while Ali on bass improvised and explored ways of playing with octaver-effects paired with distortion pedals. So, the band created a unique sound, a collision of dirty rock grooves combined with a soulful voice. Towards the end of their short set, the trio played a cover version of MICHAEL JACKSON’s ‘Man in the Mirror’. This was an absolutely fantastic interpretation of the song. Great stuff guys! Let me tell you one thing, you really should keep an eye on that band. They sound fresh and on stage they are really entertaining! Since the debut is not released yet, you should check out their 4-Track EP!

Daughtry

DAUGHTRY is an American rock band, formed by Chris Daughtry, who managed to come into the spotlight on the fifth season of the US popular TV show “American Idol”. The band was founded in 2006 and released its self-titled debut album in the same year. Actually it became a very successful debut. Then there followed a couple of other interesting creations which attracted even more attention to the project and increased the number of their fans. Now we can assess DAUGHTRY’s new record entitled ‘Baptized’ as well as a new single, ‘Waiting for Superman’. With worldwide more than 7.5 million albums sold and 17 million singles, four number one hits, four Grammy nominations and four won American Music Awards, DAUGHTRY are one of the most successful bands of their genre today. DAUGHTRY consists of Chris Daughtry (vocals), Josh Paul (bass), Brian Craddock (guitar), Josh Steely (guitar), Robin Diaz (drums) and Elvio Fernandes (keyboard). http://www.daughtryofficial.com / https://www.facebook.com/daughtry

Music & Performance
It was already crowded during the support act, but now it was really packed! And when the DAUGHTRY band members finally entered the stage, the crowd went mad. There was a lot of screaming and clapping in the air from the first second. Finally, Chris also entered the stage to start the show with the title track of the current album, ‘Baptized’. Musically, DAUGHTRY reminds a little of bands like CREED and the debut album was supported by such artists like Brad Arnold of 3 DOORS DOWN, Slash of GUNS N' ROSES or Chad Kroeger of NICKELBACK. And of course, the influences of those artists were also audible in the band’s music. DAUGHTRY’s alternative rock might sound flat and poppy to some, but otherwise it hit the nerve of the audience, being proofed by the packed hall! The first few songs of the set were pure rock anthems, but then, DAUGHTRY turned to the more quiet tunes.

The next few songs were supported only by acoustic guitar and/or piano sounds, culminating in the PHIL COLLINS hit ‘In the Air Tonight’. All-over the set, I was surprised about the vocal qualities of Chris. His voice sounded great and clean. Time passed quickly and with just twelve songs in the main set, the setlist was rather short. But well, what would be a good show without encores, especially when fans are loudly screaming for them? So, Chris Daughtry and his band returned for two more songs. All in all, the band left a good impression as live act. A DAUGHTRY concert indeed is fun!
