DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER, Honigdieb, Mustasch

After arriving at the Factory in Magdeburg, we entered the concert room and the bands were already playing. It was said, the concert would start about 8:30pm with the band MUSTASCH but HONIGDIEB also played this evening. We were looking forward to a great night with some really good music.

HONIGDIEB

HONIGDIEB- honey thief... a music cocktail is not sweet but tempting and leaves you with a taste for more. A wild mixture of chanson, pop, punk, ska, horror, indie always combined with provocative lines about sex, love and life itself makes you dance the honey beat. The band started out in 2002 after playing some punk music for a while.

Music & Performance
First when they entered the stage, I thought of KNORKATOR. They looked pretty funny, especially the front man. They started with some strange sound of guitars, some bad drumming and an awful voice. The sound wasn't the best either. The speakers didn't work properly and so, you had some strange disturbing sounds in there. The only thing that was quite good about this band was the girl playing all kinds of flutes. She gave a special side to the band. The front man just ruined everything with his lyrics - which were supposed to be funny - and his off-key singing. The only thing that was funny about him was his outfit. And, to be honest, it was more a pity to look at him. All in all, the music wasn't pretty good. It sounded like a mixture of KNORKATOR and some kind of medieval metal band. Without the vocals, they probably would have been quite better but since the front man was singing all the time, it was ruined.

MUSTASCH

MUSTASCH is a metal/hard rock/stoner band, formed in fall 1998 by Ralf Gyllenhammar, Hannes Hansson, Mats Hansson and Mats Johansson on the Mustasch farm on the island Orust in Sweden. In 2000 they released their first EP ‘The True Sound of the New West’. The band name MUSTASCH was chosen by them because a lot of their heroes had moustaches, for example Freddi Mercury from QUEEN and Tony Iommi from BLACK SABBATH.

Music & Performance
The first thing that came to my mind when they started their first song, was “Oh, ok. Let me guess. Favourite band... METALLICA?” Their sound reminded me of METALLICA which was good because I really like them. They had some great riffs and the vocals were just unbelievable. He made all kind of funny jokes during the concert and hold up his beer. It was really a blast looking at Ralf Gyllenhammar (guitar, vocals). I had never heard of them before that day but my boyfriend told me they were pretty good and surely, they didn't disappoint me and the whole audience. The sound became better, too. MUSTASCH played for about 30 minutes, I guess, and if you ask me, it could have been even longer. They had that much strength upon stage and they showed tons of energy. It was just stunning. I guess, I'm not lying when I say that MUSTASCH will become one of my favourite rock bands!

DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER

DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER is a Weimar, Germany based heavy metal band signed to the Nuclear Blast label. Their name translates to “Horsemen of the Apocalypse”. Their original style (featured on their releases up to and including ‘Allegro Barbaro’) consists of death/thrash metal blended with melodic compositions establishing a more epic mood than usual in traditional death metal. In later albums, the death metal influence has declined, resulting in less chaotic composition (often centred around a verse and chorus with a bridge and solo), more constant tempo, longer songs and clean vocals (although not exclusively), resulting in a more polished and accessible sound. They use lyrics in both English and German with a shift from mainly English songs to more German ones on recent albums. http://www.reitermania.de/

Music & Performance
I saw DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER a couple of times before and always they were great. And so they were, too, this time. But there was one big difference. They had this huge show put up before they entered the stage. The stage was covered by this black fabric and it was all kind of strange. Then, they finally entered the stage and started playing. Their show is always great and so was their music. They had a lot of fun playing the songs for the fans and it was just great to see how happy they were.  With songs like ‘Seemann´ and ‘We will never die’ they saved the concert if you ask me. They played a lot of songs of their new album ‘Licht’ which was pretty sad because it is by far not their best album.

Of course, they had a huge show. They got some fans up on the stage, danced, sang and partied with them. It was really funny watching them. And, like always, they had some people of the so called “Reitermaniac”, the official fan club of the band, get up on stage. They took rubber boats, put them in there and they sailed on the audience. It was pretty funny 'til they broke down. The lights were awful, just like last year. I don't know why they are doing it. The light was pretty ok when HONIGDIEB and MUSTASCH played but as soon at the concert started, it got really bad. Basically, the concert was pretty good although some sounds were not ok and the light was pretty crappy. They only played for about 1 1/2hs which is pretty short for this band. I was kind of disappointed by that.
