Backstage, Munich, Germany
4th December 2009
Coppelius, Remember Twilight

Already to the beginning I heard lots of things making me curious on the band COPPELIUS coming for a concert to Munich and thus I came along on the way to the Backstage to experience this extraordinary band live on stage.

Remember Twilight

REMEMBER TWILIGHT is a band from Baden-Württemberg which calls their music-style even "Kammermusik-Core" (Chamber music Core). Guitars, drums and often furious, German-spoken songs hit on violins and oboes what quite puts out the own sound of this band. In 2005, they published their debut album ‘Zerrissen’. http://www.myspace.com/kammermusikcore

Music & Performance
Already a quarter before the official beginning of the concert, the first band of the evening entered the unfortunately very small stage in the Backstage club. More than these seven band members wouldn't have found place on it. The club was quite well filled with listeners right now and thus it was also not bad that the evening began earlier than announced. The light was extremely scanty - like in the club commonly - not very much for the joy of the present photographers.

REMEMBER TWILIGHT strove itself fairly, in spite of technical problems at the beginning and in spite of little place. At the latest with ‘Mackie Messer’, the good tempered audience joined in the singing and also the small "fire show" with the burning glove met big approval. Unfortunately, after half an hour, the performance was already over - an addition could not be given, because after COPPELIUS probably a party should take place in the club.

Coppelius

The name of the band COPPELIUS from Berlin was taken from a novel figure from E. T. A. Hoffmann. COPPELIUS tries to produce a fictive identity according to which they come from the 19th century. Their music is influenced very much by Iron Maiden, however, they love to cover the songs of them with instruments like clarinet, cello and contrabass. This year their latest album ‘Tumult’ appeared. http://www.coppelius.eu/

Music & Performance
Then at 9:15 PM it was time and servant Bastille (voice) entered the stage as the first, lighted the lantern, sat down on a chair and drank first of all something. Bit by bit appeared Max Coppella (voice, clarinet), Nobusama (drums), Graf Lindorf (voice, cello), Comte Caspar (voice, clarinet) and Sissy Voss (bass) on stage which was decorated in an old-fashioned way. Even the clothes’ choice with frock coat, patricide, tails and cylinder moved one into the past. The nearly 2-hour show was perfect and fulfilled all the wishes except the still miserable light; the audience was inspired! The people sang, danced together and clapped and as soon as the butler pulled out the sign “Rest please”, it was completely quiet in the club! At the end they played a few additions.

All in all, it was a very successful evening; show and music compensated for the small, very hot and poor in light Backstage Club.
