Album Review

If there was any doubt to the beauty of the union between MONA MUR and EN ESCH after 2009s ‘120 Tage’ then this new offering from the duo should dispel all doubts. Featuring EN ESCH’s distinctive electronic styling and MONA MUR’s sultry cabaret style vocals the album asserts itself right from the start. The sinister trip hop of ‘Touch’ is a profoundly sexy opener with it’s stuttering beats and analogue waves slithering around MONA MUR’s tongue. Continuing this form throughout songs like ‘Easy living’ (an URIAH HEEP cover), ‘Do with me what you want’, ‘Justice’, and ‘Part again’ the songs veer from industrial, to dark cabaret, to trip hop and EBM with ease.

The production and mixing are pretty much spot on for the whole album showing that the vision of both artists / producers is firmly set on the same goal. There is just enough grit in the sound to keep old school fans of the artists happy while newer fans will find the clean large sound welcoming and familiar. There is a lot of potential with this album. More than a few songs could well make it onto regular dance floor rotations if pushed enough, while the rest of the songs can easily form the backbone of the duo’s live performances.
