Album Review

If you haven’t heard of KITE before, your surprise will be enormous. The Swedish duo not only plays something that sounds like the early 80’s music, but they have managed to put the whole decade intact into their music in such an amount that you have the feeling that you’re hearing forgotten hits. Had the band existed back then they would have monopolised the charts with their utterly catchy songs. The CD opens with ‘I Just Wanna Feel’ which will make you think that it is a track from ‘Breakfast Club’ and the truth is that if you’re familiar especially with the movies of this decade each and every song will remind you of something. The synths are more (and better) 80’s than the original bands and their whole style has something to do with ERASURE, KATE BUSH and A-HA.

‘Step Forward’ is catchy and danceable but so is ‘Victorious’, a song that would be fit for ‘The Warriors’. And what would the 80’s be without a sense of melancholy? For that, ‘Stand Back’ and especially ‘Closing My Heart’ are here to remind you some of the more cheesy romantic feeling of this period. Above and beyond the call of retrospectives that tantalises so many bands, their amour-propre for a decade they have no clue about, KITE manage to delve and to bring forth some masterpieces which shall make your day joyous for sure.
