Album Review

There are some things which are just can’t come together. For example, in the beginning of the XX century Walter Gropius, who built the Bauhaus, had an idea, that everything should be functional and cheap. But if you go to eBay and find some things in Bauhaus style, you’ll see that a simple stool costs over 400 Euro. And if you would see the same stool in IKEA, you would think twice before buying it even for IKEA-price. Rex Zeco, the guitarist and songwriter of NIGHTQUEEN wanted to create a metal band for everybody. His formula was to combine metal guitar riffs with melodic and catchy tunes. Maybe it is a nice idea, but it failed hard.

Common, how can a person, wishing make popular music, keep writing songs like ‘Dark Fairy’ or ‘Rebel to Rebel’. And it is a question what is worst, the fantasy songs, or the legend about the housewife, who turns into the Queen of the Night. In the context of popular music, both concepts are failed. The vocalist has a great female metal voice, what fits super to metal scene, but not every listener could stay that kind of strong deep vocals. NIGHTQUEEN could be compared to bands like SIRENIA or EIGENSINN. I can hardly imagine somebody singing the 4-minutes song or even longer with that kind of vocal, taking shower. It is a nice female-vocal metal album, but unfortunately there is nothing about super-nice melodies or songs for the masses.
