Album Review:

MIASMAL is a Swedish Death Metal band, founded in 2007. Following up on a demo and an EP, the band released their self-titled debut in 2011 and three years later the successor ‘Cursed Redeemer’, which also marks the band’s first album to be published by Century Media Records. MIASMAL kick off the album with the title track ‘Cursed Redeemer’, a very fast and straight-forward title, which does not only include speedy and grooving riffs, but also skilled guitar work. The following ‘Call Of The Revenant’ continues in a similar way, combining Old School Death Metal with MIASMAL’s own, slightly technical pitches. Furthermore, slower elements are introduced as well and create a certain tension.

Titles like ‘Whisky Train’ and ‘Excelsior’ combine fastness and aggression with a catchy, almost Rock ‘n’ Roll like attitude into entertaining and harsh Death Metal. ‘Until The Last’ is a more technical and at the same time monotonous track, whereas ‘2013’ also includes a longer instrumental and melody-driven phrase and concludes the album in a slightly unexpected way, which also illustrates possible ways of development for the future. To conclude, ‘Cursed Redeemer’ marks an interesting and entertaining Death Metal album, which is dominated by speed and brutality, but also makes use of technical skill and varied song structures.
