Album Review

MOONSPELL have been through many music changes, from Black Metal to Gothic to Industrial to Death Metal, so I was curious about their new album and the direction they would follow. After listening the album I can say that is a Gothic Metal album with Death Metal elements. The album starts with the song 'Breathe', a song with clean deep vocals, catchy chorus and oriental elements. 'Extinct' is the next song. It is one of the hardest tracks of the album with great drumming and Death Metal vocals. Third track is 'Medusalem' which is an absolutely great Gothic Rock song. Than we have 'Domina', a mid-tempo song that brought me in mind their older song 'Scorpion Flower'. Track number five is 'The Last Of Us', a very good and catchy song heavy influenced by THE SISTERS OF MERCY. After 'The Last Of Us' is the track titled 'Malignia',a track that is closer to the 'Butterfly Effect' album style.

One of the best songs of the album is 'Funeral Bloom', a song that FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM would be very proud if this was their song. Next one is 'A Dying Breed', a gothic rock song with a metal chorus. Song number nine is 'The Future Is Dark', a dark atmospheric song with great keyboards. Last one is 'La Baphomette' a down-tempo dark song with French lyrics. MOONSPELL are back with one of their best albums ,maybe their fans that prefer their Black/ Death Metal albums would feel a little disappointed but I’m sure if they listen 'Extinct' carefully and with open mind they will realise that it's a great album!
