19 years after the release of their last studio album German Death Metallers MORGOTH are back. From the original line-up of the band we have only two members, Harald Busse and Sebastian Swarton on guitars. New members are Marc Reign on drums, Sotirios Kelekidis on bass and Karsten "Jagger" Jäger from DISBELIEF on vocals. From music point of view ‘Ungod’ is between ‘Cursed’ and ‘Odium’. The album is a dark, brutal Death Metal with very good guitar melodies, great drumming and powerful brutal vocals that sounds like a mixture of Martin van Drunen (ASPHYX) and Chuck Schuldiner (DEATH).
My favourite songs of the album are ‘Snakestate’, a track with great guitars and bass but also with very strong and powerful vocals, ‘Prison In Flesh’, a track with melodic passages but also it keeps the brutal feeling, the “groovy” ‘Nemesis’, ‘Descent Into Hell’, a track with great guitar solo, and ‘God Is Evil’, a song filled with Death Metal feeling and vocals influenced by Chuck Schuldiner. If you like bands like ASPHYX, PESTILENCE, OBITUARY, MASSACRE and DEATH, ‘Ungod’ is definitely your album!
