Album Review

Having a look at the new NACHTMAHR album title `Alle Lust will Ewigkeit´, soon you will get to know that Nomen est Omen. After the previous recordings `Kunst und Krieg´ (2007) and `Feuer Frei!´ (2008), mastermind Thomas Rainer (L´ÂME IMMORTELLE, SIECHTUM) brings a real Industrial blast into the stores again. The recent long-player committed itself to all genre-typical points. Let’s do a practical trial.

Certainly, the first most important criterion regarding danceability can be seen as fulfilled, as the recording consistently contains up-tempo tracks. Forcefully pumping beats, spherical Synth sounds and harsh EBM rhythms form a club walls shaking soundscape. The electrifying `Tanzdiktator´ is a perfect example, as well as `War on the Dancefloor´ and the highly aggressive `Code:Red´ that features a movie quote taken from “A Few Good Men” (German title: “Eine Frage der Ehre”).

Combined with the usual distorted vocals, the all in all eleven dance tracks appear flawlessly in every way. Regarding the lyrics, NACHTMAHR issues different topics. However, the focus is set on sexuality and balances of power governed by erotic. The pretty melodious `Sklave´ is a pulsating EBM anthem dealing with sadomasochism and dependence. `Klingen´, coming up with a technoid soundscape, tells about self-injurious behaviour by using movie quotes again. This stylistic device seems to be an essential one, as it is also heard on the (in other respects varied) track `Weil ich´s kann!´.

To arrive at the conclusion: Though there are a lot of genre-typical ingredients, `Alle Lust will Ewigkeit´ distinguishes itself by a special kind of catchiness and great melodies. As I’m not a fan of extensively used movie quotes, I deduct two points. The black dance club scene will render homage to NACHTMAHR and I guess, it will gratefully accept the sweaty challenge.
