An appetizer of the newest MESH dinner is served. The recent single `Only Better´ prepares for the upcoming album `A Perfect Solution´ which will be in stores on 23rd October 2009 followed up by a tour through Germany and other European countries in this year’s November. After Mark Hockings and Richard Silverthorn had convinced fans and critics as well by the successful long-player `We Collide´ in 2006, the guys from Bristol are bouncing back into the public ear now. Besides three remix versions of the title track, the single `Only Better´ also contains the song `Shattered Glass´ and the KLOQ-remix of `Everything I made´. Therefore, the five tracks are very different from each other, however, but they are identifiable as typical MESH pieces instantly.
The mid-tempo song `Only Better´ is a representative anthem due to its catchy melody, stunning keyboard sounds and a powerful chorus. In my opinion, this characteristic package will work well again and be able to pick up the thread of the previous releases. `Shattered Glass´ is dominated by hard guitars resulting in an aggressive Rock song alike; less accented than `Only Better´ and being content with a quite simple melody. Hockings´ unusual monotonous and partly distorted vocals appear threatening and cause a dark atmosphere that is in line with the instrumental parts. However, after repeated listening, I’m very into the track and really like it. The technoid KLOQ-remix of `Everything I made´ offers a slow piano intro that leads over to a danceable and up-tempo song including distorted vocals. All in all, the new single is a promising prelude which will ease waiting time for the album release.
