Album Review

Mariusz Duda, a singer from Polish band RIVERSIDE, has also been busy with a solo project - LUNATIC SOUL - with the same titled album titles in part I and II, the one coming out this month is the second part of his experimental tapping of the underworld. Additionally, Duda’s solo creations are called by colours - the first was the ‘Dark Album’ this one as its opposite, the ‘White Album’, and it finishes Duda’s musical diptych. I think the thickening complex situation that the world is finding itself in is forcing many to make at least some sense of it through creating Dantesque journeys.

This one is a very relaxing and soothing affair; if this is a descent into underworld then it is a very good recreation and immersion. One of the best parts of the journey is the third song, ‘Suspended In Whiteness’. The flutes lend it a very calming and beautiful feel, at times with the singing I am reminded of TOOL; apart from flashes of their influence there are also some from PINK FLOYD and PORCUPINE TREE.  Next notable piece with its great effects at the beginning, intriguing and quite fitting for the subject is ‘Limbo’ - creepy sounds, rattling, ticking, and at times creaking guitar and percussions underlying those sounds. ‘Transition’ is a harder song, bearing some Heavy Metal tones with very slight dash of Industrial.

With ‘Gravestone Hill’ we are taken back to the softer soundscape, atmospheric and melancholic song which could describe the closing song ‘Wanderings’ pretty much also. I wouldn’t wax lyrical about it, but it’s a very enjoyable album, great for unwinding after stressful time.
