Lynyrd Skynyrd & The Brew
On that Tuesday we were going to attend quite a special concert: The rock legend LYNYRD SKYNYRD came to Munich's Zenith for a concert. However, before the photographers could start doing their job, we all first had to sign a contract. Luckily it was an ok one...
The Brew
THE BREW is a British Blues-Rock band which was founded in 2005 in north-east-English Grimsby. Already with their first both albums, 'The Brew' from 2006 and 'The Joker' from 2008, they attracted attention throughout Europe. However, their success is based above all on their countless live concerts. Thus, they were headlining already some festivals in whole Europe and were already chosen once for the best band of the year. In 2012, they released their latest album 'The Third Floor'. www.the-brew.net
Music & Performance
On time at 8:15 PM the trio THE BREW appeared on stage, consisting of singer and guitarist Jason Barwick, bassist Tim Smith and his son, drummer Kurtis Smith. From the beginning, their appearance was a feast for the eyes and the ears. The only 23-year-old Jason awakes on stage - thanks to the extensive guitar-solo, his behaviour and his playing manner - the impression as if Jimi Hendrix stood personally there. Approx. 2,500 listeners, who appeared in that evening in the Zenith, were already at the time in best mood.
The band played songs from their whole repertoire. In spite of the not so good sound - what is normal for the Zenith, unfortunately - and the extremely weak light, one could imagine that this band is something quite special. After their appearance they left the stage under blustering applause.

Lynyrd Skynyrd
US Rock band LYNYRD SKYNYRD was already founded back in 1964 in Jacksonville, USA. They count to the most important representatives of Southern Rock. Their music is a mixture of Rock, Blues-Rock and Country. In 1977 the band attained tragic fame, after half of the band died in a plane crash. In 1987, the band formed up anew. Finally, this summer they'll release their new album 'The Last Of A Dying Breed'. www.lynyrdskynyrd.com
Music & Performance
Then after the rebuilding break it was time and the fans hoisted the Confederate flag, while singer Johnny van Zant, bassist Robert Kearns, the guitarists Rickey Medlocke, Gary Rossington and Mark Matejka, drummer Michael Cartellone and keyboarder Peter Keys entered stage. After the second song, some more strengthening came onto stage with the background singers Dale Krantz Rossington and Carol Chase. From beginning, the band exuded Confederate state atmosphere in the Zenith with their songs. This fitted, anyhow, well to the high temperatures in the hall and one could be even happy that not more fans had come and the hall became more packed than it already was.
Nevertheless, the present listeners - under whom surprisingly were also a lot of young fans - danced and sang a lot. LYNYRD SKYNYRD looked relaxed during their appearance and nearly quite without any hurry - what, as I found, was fitting rather well to their music - and finally they're not the youngest any more. So, taking it a bit more relaxed was the best thing they could do. The mood was very good and of course songs like 'Sweet Home Alabama' - during which also singer Johnny did hoist the Confederate flag - and 'Free Bird', what formed a successful end of this evening, were not absent. All in all, it was a very atmospheric and successful concert evening also with a great support band which returns, by the way, this autumn again to Germany for their own tour.
