Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds & Jake Bugg

THE HIGH FLYING BIRDS are Noel Gallagher's final return to music ever since he split with OASIS back in 2009. The band has put their eponymous debut album out in September 2011, followed by a tour which now, particularly in October, will finally reached Germany. The Düsseldorf show war far from sold-out. I guess something between 3,000 and 4,000 people made their way to the Rhine city to see the show which was opened by JAKE BUGG and his band.

Jake Bugg

Jaku Bugg is a young man, just 18 years old, from Clifton, Nottingham, UK. He started playing guitar when he was 12 years old, soon after he also started writing songs. Presenting a mix of Country, Folk and Indie, he released three singles so far. With 17 years, he even had an appearance at Glastonbury festival. His second single already made it into British Charts. The self-titled debut album will be out in October. On stage, he was supported by a bassist and a drummer. http://www.jakebugg.com / https://www.facebook.com/jakebugguk

Music & Performance
English songwriter Jake Bugg, influenced by such artists as Bob Dylan, The Beatles or Jimi Hendrix, was supported live on stage by a bassist and a drummer what brought more volume to his songs. But there were not only full-band songs within the set. Young Jake proved his talent especially with the two songs, ‘Someone told me’ and ‘Country Song’ (which was originally used in a TV commercial), he performed with his guitar alone. Even though the whole set, underlined by just white lights, was rather calm, the crowd was excited by the artist’s talent. And so, he was awarded with well deserved applause at the end of his ten song grasping 30 minutes set. Jake is definitely an artist you should keep an eye on.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

English musician Noel Gallagher is best known as the former lead guitarist, backing vocalist and principal songwriter of the English rock band OASIS. Departing from OASIS in 2009, he announced he would embark on a solo career. Formed in 2011, NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS – his own band after the split – released the self-titled debut album in the same year. Currently he is collaborating with Amorphous Androgynous for a second studio album that is due for release in 2012. The band consists of Noel Gallagher (lead vocals, lead guitar), Mikey Rowe (keyboards), Tim Smith (guitar), Russell Pritchard (bass) and Jeremy Stacey (drums). http://www.noelgallagher.com / https://www.facebook.com/noelgallaghermusic / https://www.facebook.com/noelhighflyingbirds

Music & Performance
After some extraordinary shows  in winter/spring 2012– the one in Cologne i.e. was sold-out – Noel Gallagher and his band are back in Germany again. And once more, the band presented songs from their own album. But different to brother Liam, Noel also presented several OASIS songs as well. And so, the set turned out to be a great mix of own pieces and tracks from his former band, starting off right away with the OASIS song ‘(It's Good) To Be Free’ before two own songs ‘Everybody's On The Run’ and ‘Dream on’ followed. Not only the OASIS pieces were a success, also his solo songs have great qualities, sometimes hymnic and rhythmic, some balladry. Fans were excited from the beginning, clapping along or holding up banners showing their admiration for the band. Noel himself was in good mood presenting himself talkative and communicating with the audience not only by gestures but also with words – showing him as friendly musician.

After several more own songs, there was time for some kind of break, meaning time for two acoustic songs. OASIS tracks ‘Supersonic’ and ‘D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman?’ were presented in a calm stripped-down version. Exciting! Another highlight surely was the OASIS ballad ‘Talk Tonight’.  Further on, the set moved between rocking tunes and ballads, between OASIS songs and HIGH FLYING BIRDS songs culminating in the great final during the encores: OASIS songs ‘Whatever’, ‘Little by Little’ and last but not least one of the band’s big hymns, ‘Don’t look back in Anger’, maybe even being the motto of the evening. Really a great end of the show when people happily sang along. Seems also without his former band, Noel Gallagher did anything right, satisfying the audience a lot with his show. No one would look back in anger, I guess!
