Album Review

Pete Crane and Ben Bulig are the masterminds behind SHIV-R. Their great talent in music gained a serious international reputation and of course they have played several scene festivals too. ‘Wax Wings Will Burn’ is their first album after a break of three years. SHIVR-R consists of one thing for me: powerful electronics. ‘Wax Wings Will Burn’ is not that much rage or anger, but I’m not saying it’s less powerful. This album is different. SHIV-R used some fresh influences to make this album sound not like the typical album in this genre. All in all the album sounds more catchy, charismatic but nonetheless powerful. And a bit softer than the works before.

‘Wolves’ is my personal favourite on this album. This song is made of cool sound manipulations and filtered sound waves. It made me dance for hours and I had the chorus in my head really long. Same for the intro-like ‘Asylum’. The vocals on the whole album are powerful and catchy at the same time and don‘t drift into the “I scream because when I scream I’m so cool“ - modus. ‘Payload’ is really catchy too and shows how you can mix EBM and industrial elements without sounding all the same.
