Album Review

Two years after the not so successful ‘Savages’, Max Cavalera and his company are back with a new album titled ‘Archangel’. Unfortunately ‘Archangel’ “walks” on the path of bands latest albums, same ideas, same riffs, same nu-metal influences, same Death Metal influences on vocals. The differences I found from other albums is first that there are no tribal elements in ‘Archangel’ and second that there are some symphonic elements in some parts of the album. The production of the album is very powerful and all the songs are very well played from the band something which is normal for such an experienced band. The artwork made by Eliran Kantor - an artist who has worked with bands such as TESTAMENT, SODOM, ICED EARTH and many more - is great but in my opinion music is the most important not the artwork.

It seems like Max follows the same music “road” and he is not trying to evolve his music and that’s why from album to album the band is having less success. Ok I have to admit that ‘Archangel’ is better than ‘Savages’ but if you have released albums such as their debut or ‘Dark Ages’ this is not enough. Final words: I think Max must take a long break and stop releasing albums almost every year - we must not forget that he releasing albums also with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and KILLER BE KILLED - and maybe with less pressure and plenty of time he will compose a really good album like he used to.
