Album Review

‘Peoples Temple Remix Edition’ comes from TYING TIFFANY, a female artist who at first travelled around as bass player and vocalist for mostly underground bands; she also has been active in film and theatre. She has a passion for dark, industrial and punk and mixes a lot of styles within her rich and complex music. She has previously released an album titled ‘Undercover’. This is a release of remixes from her latest album, ‘Peoples Temple’. This need to play songs in a variation, sometimes results from a need to rake more money in or from a genuine artistic impulse and I would say that this album falls into the second category. The sense one gets is that TYING TIFFANY wants to go beyond the original, to see how far can it be pushed and developed, infusing her wide music tastes even more.

I would say that the Goth aspect is more stripped for the danceability, though it’s still sufficiently dark, intense and at times wonderfully angry. Expect a lot of EBM influences here as well. It starts at its best point, ‘First Black Pope Remix’, it starts with a panicked distorted voice and a relentless hard beat sequence follows, with echoing vocal of TYING TIFFANY, keyboards as if coming from the back at times and then forcing themselves into it, make it atmospheric and layered. The vocal is great, it sounds as announcing series of statements but singing all the same, screaming parts add intensity and urgency. Some industrial noise and EBM enters during the second part for a short while for the chorus to break back in again. The second ‘Storycide - Spiral69 Remix’ has incorporated some great orchestration at the beginning and to be fading in and out through the song, there’s less of beat emphasis. It’s another strong and intense song enriched with a dose of sadness and melancholy, the ascending and descending notes are superb.

The next one ‘Miracle - XP8 Remix’ is back to the beats and is quite an uplifting and contrasting song in that aspect to the first darker ones.  Another remarkable song to pick from this release would be ’Iceone ft Electro Disciples Remix’, apart from it being great for the dance floor, it’s the richest culmination of a variant on ‘Miracle’.  My preferences lean onto its darker tracks, so the closing ‘Borderline (Alt Remix)’ more than satisfies that. It gets close to epic, and it’s also one of the songs without using echo for the vocal, and adds a benefit of hearing TYING TIFFANY’s voice as it is. Remix releases mostly appeal to fans or DJ’s, but even if that’s not your case, this release is worth checking out. The music’s great and has enough to offer not to consider it a waste of time.
