Turbinenhalle, Oberhausen, Germany
22nd January 2009
Peter Heppner

On Thursday, 22nd January we went to Oberhausen to enjoy PETER HEPPNER at his current tour. PETER HEPPNER is well-known as the (former) lead singer of the famous German synth pop band WOLFSHEIM, but he is also known for successful collaborations with many other electronic music acts like SCHILLER, PAUL VAN DYK, JOACHIM WITT or GOETHES ERBEN. In September 2008, he released his first solo album called ‘Solo’ and now he is touring through Germany. On this tour he is supported by a band consisting of Carsten Klatte (i.e. PROJECT PITCHFORK, guitar), Lothar Manteuffel (keyboard), Dirk Riegner (i.e. SECRET DISCOVERY and miLú, keyboard) and Achim Färber (i.e. PROJECT PITCHFORK, drums). http://www.peter-heppner.com/ / www.myspace.com/peterheppner

Music & Performance
In the background of the stage the two keyboards were arranged as well as the guitar and the drum set; the foreground was dominated by the obligatory music stand of Peter. Just in time the musicians entered the stage, Peter put his song book onto the music stand and the show began with ‘Easy’. The setlist was a good choice of songs taken from the current album ‘Solo’ alternated by some famous WOLFSHEIM songs like ‘Künstliche Welten’, ‘Kein Zurück’ or ‘Once In A Lifetime’. Also songs from his earlier collaborations like ‘Die Flut’, ‘Wir sind wir’ or ‘Dream of You’ were included in the set. The live arrangement of the songs was very dynamic and vital; much better as I remembered from WOLFSHEIM. The live musicians did a very good job.

Peter was in a very good temper and performed the songs soulfully and passionately. He was smiling a lot and looked very happy being on stage. Quickly the spirit went over to the crowd which was dancing and singing along the most time. The sound was great and lightshow with the great LED elements in the background was just fabulous too. After about 80 minutes the main set finished, followed by two encores with three further songs including the most famous song of WOLFSHEIM - ‘The Sparrows and the Nightingales’. Altogether it was a great show and the crowd left the venue delighted and satisfied.
