VISIONI GOTICHE is an Italian band formed in 2007 by Mattia M and Roby Tav and in the same year the musicians released their first self-produced album ‘Vampires’. Then the formation was deeply involved in the creation of soundtracks for horror movies, mostly short ones and also continued recording CDs. It’s hard to relate VISIONI GOTICHE to a single genre and while listening to the band one can notice the influence of gothic metal, dark ambient, electronic and horror music. And this is true for the new work of the musicians, entitled ‘Il Segreto del Demone’ (The Secret of the Demon) which storms your ears with a multitude of sounds so it’s easy to get lost in such sonic variety.
The album consists of two parts both developing the same concept about demons, angels, dreams and the eternal war between good and evil. Each song is significant indeed and presents a complete story however all the compositions form a fanciful kaleidoscope stimulating a listener’s imagination. The sound of steps in an empty hall, devilish laughter, screams and strange noise - everything is intended to immerse you in the sinister atmosphere of approaching disaster and there’s no way out. In our consciousness there appears a desolate place, where the demon dwells, mysterious people performing their black ritual and it’s just one of many possible interpretations. Male and female vocals, accrual and decelerating but still passive guitars further the development of this audio performance.
Actually the album is difficult to listen to because of the unusual combination of sounds and the complexity of the tracks but it deserves one’s attention at least with its originality and versatility.
