Megaherz and Die!

Megaherz rocking the cotton club, supported by Die!
As we arrived at the Kammgarn in Kaiserslautern at 8 pm, loud music came out of the club.  We where surprised to find “Die!” on stage to support Megahertz, which wasn’t  announced at Kammgarns website. Coming inside we passed directly through the club to stage to see the band.

Die!

Dark rock music with German texts was programmed tonight. Die! Was founded in 1995 in Bergisch Gladbach and was nominated in 1998 for the German “Bundesrockpreis”. After 4 CD´s, in time for their tenth anniversary, they present their new album “ Manche bluten ewig” during their tour with Megaherz.

Music
4 people on stage, a classical cast. Singer, Drummer Bass & Guitar Player. The music is really hard and loud, a mix of pop, rock and heavy metal was presented to us. Walking in Rammsteins and Oomph!´s footsteps they knew how to inspire their fans, who sang along with every song; word by word. The sound this evening was really clear and powerful in the small Cotton Club.

Performance
All band members know their trade and played their instruments competently. The singer, Oliver Jungs, was as powerful as all their songs. The teamwork of the band was really good in this small audience and could convince me. The small stage, blocked by Megahrerz’s drumkit, didn’t leave much space for an energetic show,  although the boys were really agile and used all available space to rock. Red and blue scanty lights conjured a dark ambience in the well filled club.

Megaherz

New CD, new frontman, new tour. For any length of time, and some line-up changes, Megaherz is back on tour.  They reconciled with their former singer (who is now the frontman of Eisbrecher), leaving nothing in way of the tour. The current band consists of singer Mathias Jablonski, guitarist Christian Bystron, bass player Wenz and drummer Frank G, and they are assisted for the tour by a second guitarist Kilian. As a result of the concert, I would say that the new frontman was an absolutely perfect choice. His charisma, voice and performance are exactly in line with the band.

Music
German industrial or crossover could describe the Megaherz style, a modern mixture of hard riffs and solid choruses to sing along. An affinity to Rammstein you couldn’t deny, which reminds me that I like Megaherz more than Rammstein. The man at the mixer, produced a really good sound in the Cotton Club, like he did before at Die!. Really powerful, loud and really clear too!

Performance
It was sweaty in the Cotton Club, not only for the band. After a few songs, Mathias already warned the audience by showing off his belly. While drummer Frank came on stage in pants only. As good as possible they used the stage to inspire the crowd, which sang every song word by word. An advantage of small clubs is the closeness to the people, which visibly was enjoyed by the band.  Handshaking and having the crowd sing had to be this night’s intention. Mathias, singing really clear and melodic on the one side, with a dark and deep chant on the other, made all fear evaporate, the old songs will didn’t lose their style with the new singer. After about one hour the official part of the program was over but the guys from Megaherz  couldn’t stop and gave an encore of 5 extra songs.
