29th April 2005
Pink Turns Blue

With phantasmagoric beautiful Wave songs, Pink Turns Blue enchanted their listeners in the 80s and at the beginning of the 90s. This gloomy but immense soulful German Wave band, which was writing very gentle to desperate songs first of all at the beginning, could satisfy especially with the first both albums. In the 90s the band split up and it came to a very long break. In 2003 they gave a re-union concert during the "Wave Gotik Treffen" and now the new CD "Phoenix" has been released.

The "Zwischenfall" in Bochum is some kind of cult venue for the Wave scene and so it was a very good choice for that band. I arrived at about 8 and met right away a lot of friends in front of the club. After the doors opened we had to wait until 21.45 when the band finally entered the stage.

Music

The band entered the very small stage and started with the final song of the new album "Feel my soul". The gentle Wave sounds bewitched the audience from the very beginning and everyone was listening lost in reverie. The first part of the show was reserved for the new songs which followed the Pink Turns Blue tradition. The first old hit appeared with "Michelle". Mic was a bit croaky that evening but in my opinion his throaty voice was fitting quite good to the melancholic songs that evening.

Performance
The stage decoration was very nice and moody... twigs were spread over the stage and the backdrop behind the stage was white with the Pink Turns Blue logo. Later on there were videos projected to the screen. Eyecatcher was additionally Brigid on the kayboards/guitar. She wore a short dress and high heels and looked like she came from the 20s. The lights were quite dark and underlined the mood of the songs. Sadly there were some technical problems (the front speakers didn´t work) and so a technician tried to fix them nearly the whole show... without success. But the guys on stage didn´t care and made some jokes about that, talking with the audience and apologizing therefore. The audience seemed to be back in the 80s enjoying their old fashioned Wave sounds. A very nice concert evening.
