Welle:Erdball

On this first hot spring night in Holland this year Welle Erdball would finally perform again in Holland. First the starting time of the show was unknown, but finally I figured out that it started at 23:00. The audience had to wait a little longer, but finally the band came on stage at 23:45. I noticed it was the same show as on wave gothic treffen Leipzig, since the band also started with the song ‘Schaufensterpuppen’. The set up on stage was also the same.

Music
The first songs weren’t really filled with the energy I had expected from Welle:Erdball, but after the third song the audience started to dance. The music did sound perfect, with perhaps just a few errors in it. Honey used a lot of strange instruments, like smashing a stick on a barrel during ‘Arbeit adelt’. In ‘Commodore 64’ nothing else but voices were used to make the music in that song. It’s really fantastic how they manage to make minimalistic music sound that rich. Besides that, I had the feeling that a lot of samples where used too, but who cares, that’s allowed in this kind of music. It’s all about the show.

Performance
The way Welle:Erdball gives his show is really fantastic. On stage were two huge turning mobiles with lights in it, moved by Soraya and KayCat, the two female vocalists/drummers of the band. During the concert they moved like dolls shooting with guns, showing walkmans and more. The singer was extremely energetic, despite of the high temperature in LVC. He was moving like a robotic creature while he was sweating all over his suit and sunglasses. During the song ‘Starfighter 104G’ planes made of paper flew from of the stage. Another comical moment was the release of 10 huge balloons with the logo of the band on it. After a slow start the show was fascinating until the last song. The band came back twice and played four more songs on request. Glad I was there to see them again after their show at WGT.  After the show DJ XXX  and Krat kept on moving the dance floor with lots and lots of floor killers.
