Live Music Hall, Cologne, Germany
29th November 2005
The Bloodhound Gang, Electric Eel Shock, Spitting of tall Buildings

Three bands for one evening: “The Bloodhound Gang” and “Electric Eel Shock” - two bands who know how to put on a great show – and the German band” Spitting Of Tall Buildings” that looks a bit alienated in this set.

Spitting Of Tall Buildings

“Spitting Of Tall Buildings” are four words for five people. The young new blood band consists of Jana (voc), Paule (guit), Greg (guit), Andre (bass) and Niels playing the drums. www.spittingofftallbuildings.de

Music
The band itself describes its music neither as Punk, nor as Emo, nor as Hardcore – but all of it combined together and then nothing at all of these styles. Unfortunately their music is nothing that you wouldn’t have heard somewhere else before. A sexy frontgirl screaming into her microphone and tousling her hair while doing this is nothing new these days and did not come across too spectacular. The sound of the band was rather boring, somehow this certain kick from the music was missing. They were not bad but on the other hand you can hear this kind of sound from every other college band.

Performance
Alone the singer delivered something remotely of a performance in jumping around the stage – which should be enough, then. The audience actually didn’t get the vibe, and some felt even so bored that they were holding up their lighters during quite rocky parts. Unfortunately there was no energy between band and audience either – maybe next time!

Electric Eel Shock

The Japanese “Electric Eel Shock” are Aki Morimoto (guit/voc), Kazuto Maekawa (bass) and Tomoharu´Gian´Ito (drums). They are the perfect support act for Bloodhound Gang – crazy drunkards; loud and rocking. www.electriceelshock.com

Music
Mixing dark fuzzy stoner rock riffs with classic rock sensibilities and addictive song-writing hooks they occupy the gaping void somewhere between "Queens Of The Stone Age", "AC/DC" and "Black Sabbath". The show was a brilliant musical performance and a good mix of Rock ’n’ Roll, Electro and Hardcore. It’s fun to listen to this band, their sound is just crazy and extra-ordinary, but great.

Performance
The absolute highlight of their performance was drummer Gian who entered the stage being naked with only a white sock covering his private parts (reminiscent of old “Red Hot Chilli Peppers”, right?). Songs like “Bastard” and “Suicide Rock’n Roll” pushed the audience; the atmosphere was really great – that’s the way it should be! The light show was a pleasant mix of violet, white and blue which made the band looking good.

The Bloodhound Gang

“Bloodhound Gang” - this is James Franks (aka Jimmy Pop), Harry Dean (aka DJ Q-Ball), Matthew Stigliano (aka Lupus Thunder), Jared Hennegan (aka Evil Jared Hasselhoff) and William Brehony (aka Willie the new guy). The band was founded in 1993 by Jimmy Pop. Initially they did cover versions of “Depeche Mode” songs and was nothing more than a one-off joke by the band members. The band “God Lives Underwater” gave them MIDI equipment and they taught them the right use of samples. The album “Use Your Fingers” is a Rap album consisting of samples. The subsequent albums mixed Punk Rock with Rap. In 1999 drummer Spanky G. left the band. The candidates for the casting for a new drummer had to testify their qualities in a contest in hot dog eating and guessing Bart Simpson quotes. The Gang is well known for their rudeboy shows and as well for their jocoseness and cover versions on their CDs. In September 1999 they played the SWR3 New Pop Festival. In October 1999 the single “The Bad Touch” and the album “Hooray For Boobies” both made the number one spot of the German charts. The year 2005 saw a return of the Gang, and they proved that they didn’t lose their sense of humour. The new album is called “Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo”, or short “F.U.C.K.”! www.bloodhoundgang.com

Music
The typical Bloodhound gang sound never gets lost, they play what they are known and loved for, old and new songs alike. It was once again a great team play of Punk and Rap music. What else can you say, who doesn’t know them...? I guess the more important part of the show is the performance anyway.

Performance
During the first three songs they still held back with lousy manners…and then it started. Evil Jared got a boy from the audience on stage just to relieve him from his Iron Maiden shirt because the guy always gave him the finger before. The band is infamous for infuse beer through a funnel or swallowing kilos of sauerkraut. This Jared emptied a whole bottle of Jagermeister at once through a funnel, and of course he subsequently barfed another time into a bucket. The contact with the audience was closer as with any other band. Jared grabbed a fistful of backstage passes and distributed them to young good looking girls. Jimmy Popp couldn´t help but making a few stunts himself. He stuffed something in his mouth, chewed it and spit it on Jared. But Jared didn’t let the matter rest and took a revenge. He climbed the tier with the drum kit behind Jimmy Pop, opened his trousers and urinated on Pop! The only reaction by the singer: "I love Cologne so much, that I play songs covered in piss!" For the final part of the show all band members, except the drummer, came back on stage with huge helmets which had little drums installed on them. Thus the drummer played the drum pads on the heads of his band mates while Q-Ball rapped to the rhythm. The sold out Live-Music-Hall freaked out and the audience didn’t want it to stop. A downright good show!
