The Peppel, Zeist, The Netherlands
November 14th 2003
Epica, Sengir, Trisomy
One of the first 'tours' from Epica was this package. Playing in
almost every venue to practise, to get the experience and to win the
audience. In those days you could see Epica growing, especially Simone
from a shy to a strong frontwoman.
When Trisomy starts many people filled the small room. In the
middle a pitt, but later that evening it will desapear. The
reputation of Trisomy in the media is not so well and the reaction aong
the people is not really positive. Maybe because she is a bit older
than the women from the two other bands. The clothes plays a part too,
because the black wings on her arms can’t fullfill a part in the story
what Trisomy wants to tell. Her voice is better than many should
thought. A bit lower than from Simone, but she had emotion in it and
more than that, when you see her sing the listener knows that singing
is what she really wants to do. It gives a honest feeling. The
rest of the sound is really not bad. The guitars sound a bit like
stratovarius some times, also the grat fast parts and the drum is from
a good ritmn.
The second band Sengir has proven themselves more
often. Their live gigs in the Netherlands were always interesting. They stood on the Novemberrain festival and now they will play on this small stage. This evening they have the energy to impressed
the public.
Ellen is not only a great singer with a powerfull gothic
voice, she also dances great and is makes a good performanence together
with the long bassplayer, who goes down on his knees. The songs have a
fast leadguitar with a soft melodic sound from the keybord and together
with the drums it is powerfull. The voice of Ellen gives colour to it
also. It is a plessure to see them on stage and they realy have a place
in the dutch gothmetal scene.
A
bit nervess the audience is standing in the front. It is warm,
not only because there are so many people in a little room, but also because they moved a lot during Sengir.
When Epica
enters the stage during the intro, there is a silence, people look to
eachother with a strange excitement thinking; is she really so good as
on the record?
Mark appears and also the other members are waiting for
Simone; there she is, in a red shirt, together with her red hair, what
seems more and more red in the spotlights. She
starts with Sensorium.
The other bands were good but Epica is
the best this evening. Not only by Simone, who is shy what gives the
gig a private feeling, but the whole band is strong connected with
eachother. Mark, with is great smile, shows to be more then a good
songwriter:
not only with his grunts but also with his commucative part to the
public.
Together with Ad, the second guitarist, he shows a energy
who transfured it to the people in the room. The gig, where they played
allmost all the songs of their debut , inclusive the intro, was too short, but they
could not give some more songs because Simone was tired.
After the
gig there is opportunity to talk with Mark and Simone and with some
members of the other band. In the voyer in the front of the venue, there
is a afterparty in the bar, a great evening and a great start of the
season.
