Dark Reign, Cutting Daisy, Tribal Spirits, Dark Lightning
As a Dark Music webzine we know that all the big names attract many readers but we'd like to use this to also point some attention to the future of the music scene as well as the many bands which consist of mainly good friends who have no other goal than to rock a few small venues full of friends and their friends. Some more ambitious bands came together for the Metal Battle preliminary Round in Ermelo and we reviewed them.
Dark Lightning
Dark Lightning is a metalband in a beginning stadium. They have 5 bandmembers, drums, guitars, bass and grunts. The influences are Metallica, Slipknot, Iron Maiden and System of a Down. They were the opener of the evening.

They played 4 songs (3covers like Metallica and Iron Maiden). The vocals/grunt was very bad, but the rest of the band was okay. They are disqualified because of the more than 1 cover.

Performance
The show was very simpel, it was the second performance for Dark Lightning. The interaction with the audience was not so good, more people were upstairs drinking a beer than watching the show. The lights were very red en green, not very profecional. There was not much frontlight. The only drawback was the backlight for making pictures.

Cutting Daisy
Cutting daisy is an melodic metalband with influences of dark, trash and blackmetal. They have a very personal sound. The grunts are comparable with Orphanage

They kicked of with “headhunt” a song from the demo 2004. Thijs(grunts) didn’t seem to get every textline as usual. In the new song “the fools crowned themselves gods” were the keys brilliant. The rest of the instruments were very good. Very nice for my ears! One problem was the microphoneplug… which was very bad. Thijs had to keep it into the mic all the time.

Dark Reign have influences from all kind of metalgenres (and ofcourse a personal

The sound was very good and also the style of metal. It was comparable with
black/death metal. Very pretty to listing.
Performance
The performance was good but the frontman was not realy the frontman. The bass- and guitar player were more like a frontman. The interaction with the audience was also great. The lights were the same as the other bands.

Tribal Spirits
Tribal Spirits makes a mix of heavy Metal with influence of: Metallica, Slayer, Lamb
of God and lots of other bands. A rough and melodic sound with fast guitarriffs,
hard drum and bass and with recognisable vocals. The bandmembers are Alwin(Vocals, Bass), Jory(Guitar) and Martin(Drums).

The sound was very good, it was the second time in OJC Plaza. The members were very stiff. Where were the headbaning people??

The interaction with the audience wasn’t great. The band had a lot of fun and that is more important. It’s just a beginning band. I want to see this band in the future!
