Schwimmbad Music-Club, Heidelberg, Germany
15th March 2006
Welle:Erdball

This band is really an exception in these times. Since 1990 they play pure electronic music like the former ‘Neue Deutsche Welle’ (New German Wave). They are using old instruments and computer systems because of their conviction. The C-64 has always been their inspiration and favourite “instrument”. With their own style and sound they reanimate a musical world that has gone long time ago. We arrived a little bit too early this evening at the ‘Swimmbad Club’. So we got a very good place right in front of the stage. Even before the concert started, there was much fog in the little room. The concert room at the club has a very deep ceiling and it is always filled with smoke.

Music
The band started with a lot of technical problems. The stage seemed a little bit too small for all their stuff and the four band members. At this evening there were Honey, Frl. Venus, Frl. Plastik as a new member and an unknown man, who took the place of the regular keyboarder A.L.F. Honey explained that A.L.F. couldn’t join the concert because of a private thing and that’s why the new man “Björn” takes his part. As always they used lots of samples, but there were technical failures for the whole concert, so we can’t say what’s been planned and what must have been improvised. Because of these problems, Honey wanted to repay the audience their huge costs for this evening. Although they only planned a gig of 70 minutes they already played for nearly more than two hours. They turned this concert into a wishing time for their fans and played the songs that came out of the crowd. Honey was really impressed which songs the fans wanted to hear. So the very old one ‘Fred vom Jupiter’ was the final song of this evening.

Performance
‘Welle:Erdball’ had their well known stuff with them, but they couldn’t use all of it because of the small stage. So Honey hit the oil tank in ‘Arbeit adelt!’ only a few times. Than it fell off the stage and was removed by him. Right in the back of the band and also on them there were videos projected. It gave the show a very strange look. Together with the robot-like moves of Honey and the female singers in ‘Schaufensterpuppen’ it was some kind of weird. The most impressive part was the ironing performance to the beautiful song ‘Nur tote Frauen sind schön’. ‘Welle:Erdball’ supported every song with little accessories like a little car in ‘VW Käfer’ or an old video camera for ‘Super 8’. They are always giving their best for the audience and now we are looking forward for the summer festivals. There they can show their full program.
