Schelmish

We arrived on time at the Cotton Club and were really surprised! Schelmish will play tonight in the bigger Kasino Club - not like last year in the smaller one. The local crew told us, that the band needed a bigger stage for their new show, because they are playing with a lot of new instruments. Not any longer like a traditional medieval band. So we were excited what kind of music and show Schelmish will present to us tonight! Inside the Kasino over 200 medieval-fans were waiting in front of the stage. While we were waiting for the beginning of the show we had some time to check out the people who came to see the show - a great variety of different people.

Music
The band had a lot of instruments on stage – not only typical medieval stuff like bagpips, shawn, davul and percussion. They added three big drum-sets, harpes and lutes… but also some modern amplifiers like basses and guitars and a little synthesizer. They combined traditional medieval music with some modern elements on their guitars and synths with their own style, but without copying some other medieval rock bands! It’s very hard to find an own style on this genre, without disregarding the traditional songs, so this was the biggest surprise for us. With their new rock-crew (new bassist, new guitarist) some changes had been conducted. “Rimsbold von Tiefentann” acts as the new singer (played bagpipes in their medieval cast) and Dextro grasps to the E-guitar. The performed songs in the program were predominant taken from the new album “mente capi”, which will be released in April.

Performance
From beginning the atmosphere within the audience was great. Right away they started to dance and even to dance pogo. Schelmish’s own songs went down very well!!! And the sound was also great. Rapid tempo, lots of jokes, Luzie naked – it was a great evening for band and spectators. Like a week before at the “Cultus Ferox” gig Alea der Bescheidene (Saltatio Mortis) was invited to play a song with the band. This time they were playing “Palästinalied” in a rapid version! The fans wanted more right away. Schelmish asked how much more and played another four songs for encore in jubilation. It was a great evening with a lot of surprises. We expect the new album with joy. Rock on!
