Metal Dayz Hamburg Day 2: Alpha Tiger, Profane Omen, Hatesphere, Tankard, Finntroll, Motorjesus

The second day of the Metal Dayz 2014, in the frame of the Reeperbahn festival 2014, turned out to be similar to the first day: during the gigs on the stage of the big room of the Markthalle in Hamburg, in the other hall, the MarX, were different activities offered. Expert rounds, readings and comedy shows for the entertaining. The concerts itself started at five in the afternoon.

Alpha Tiger

Opening act this evening was the Power Metal band ALPHA TIGER from Saxony. The big room was not filled with many people, but the audience which was there, was in good mood and supported the band well. The five guys from Freiberg, that were Stephan Dietrich (vocals), Peter Langforth (guitar), Alexander Backasch (guitar), Dirk Frei (bass) and David Schleif (drums) brought along much dynamic into the Markthalle. Their second record ‘Beneath the Surface’ was published last year, so ALPHA TIGER could present the seven best songs of their two records in their 45 minutes of playtime. For the end, Dietrich congratulated Backasch on his birthday. Being the first band playing must be a great birthday present. // http://www.alphatiger.de // Rating: 7 / 10

Profane Omen

Now it was time of some Scandinavian metal. For the very first time, PROFANE OMEN from Finland, were playing in Hamburg. They waited a long time for this to happen and showed the audience, how Scandinavian music works - after a short intro, a thunderstorm out of drums from Samuli Mikkonen came down, singer Jules Näveri banged with full body use and the guitarists Williami Kurki, Antti Kokkonen and bassist Antti Seroff were jumping across the stage. All in all it was rewarded with mosh pits, although most of the audience were standing more in the back of the big room. After a big finale to the end of their shows, PROFANE OMEN went now on with their tour through Europe. // http://www.profaneomen.net // Rating: 8 / 10

Hatesphere

Going along with metal from the Northern Europe, HATESPHERE from Denmark were entering the stage. Like PROFANE OMEN before, HATESPHERE opened their show with a short intro and loud and fast drums. Esben Hansen convinced with his very deep and roaring voice more people to listen to this show. Two years ago, the Denmark’s around Hansen (guitars Peter Lyse Hansen and Jakob Nyholm, bassist Jimmy Nedergaard and drummer Mike Park) were playing in the MarX and were now very proud to be able to play in the big room, because it is really a big difference. Presenting inter alia their latest single ‘Pandora's Hell’, Hansen came to the barrier to give their fans high fives and drank a beer on ex. Even a little wall of death came about for the last song ‘The Sickness Within’. // http://www.hatesphere.com // Rating: 7 / 10

Tankard

Shortly before their gig, TANKARD, coming from Frankfurt/Main, just introduced their book ‘Life in Beermuda’ in the MarX, and talked with their fans. Now it is getting in the big room for a one hour concert, opening with one of their oldest songs, ‘Zombie Attack’. Andreas Geremia, the singer of TANKARD, entered the stage as the last one, but ran almost in the photographers in the dig and held his hand in front of their lenses. Furthermore, almost the whole gig long, he is running without long breakings across the stage. In this year, the Thrash metal band published the latest record ‘R.I.B. (Rest in Beer)’, which was presented with "Do you want Old School? Us too, but we have to play something new first". Geremia shows also his beer belly in full beauty. Fans in the first row are nevertheless lucky, because they can fill up their empty cups with beer, which Geremia pours out from stage. The iron rule, that before and meanwhile the concert no alcohol is being drunken, was quickly refuted by a treacherous tangled treacherous. With ‘Die with a beer in your hand’ and ‘Time Wrap’, Geremia and his guys Andreas Gutjahr (guitar), Frank Thorwarth (bass) and Olaf Zissel (drums) are playing crosswise through their discography. // http://www.tankard.info/rest-in-beer.html // Rating 8 / 10

Finntroll

For an eye-catching gig provided the Finnish Folk Metal band FINNTROLL. Mathias “Vreth“ Lillmåns (vocals), Samuli “Skrymer“ Ponsimaa (guitar), Mikael “Routa“ Karlbom (guitar), Sami “Tundra“ Uusitalo (bass), Aleksi “Virta” Virta (keyboard) and Samu “Beast Dominator“ Ruotsalainen (drums) looked like sprung from ‘Lord of the Rings’: long, narrow elf ears, old fashioned clothing, matching make up and Lillmåns' own old fashioned microphone completed the picture. Although FINNTROLL were the headliners of the second night, the big room was still not completely filled out. FINNTROLL showed, how Folk Metal can be quiet hard and heavy, and the microphone had a voice changer in it, so Lillmåns' voice was much darker. After the concert seemed to be finished after already 45 minutes, the Finns came back on stage, to play also the other half of the show. When the concert was over, the Metal Dayz 2014 were also. // http://www.finntroll-music.com // Setlist: 1. Människopesten / 2. Eliytres / 3. Fiskarens Fiende / 4. Trollhammaren / 5. Nattfödd / 6. Motorjesus

Like the day before, one band played while the headliner in the MarX. This time, MOTORJESUS rocked this small stage - Classical Hard Rock from Mönchengladbach as alternative to the Folk Metal from FINNTROLL. In the beginning of the year, MOTORJESUS released their 5th record ‘Electric Revelation’ and are right between their summer festival and winter tour, when they hit the Metal Dayz. Singer Christoph Birx, guitarists Guido Reuss and Andreas Peters, bassist Roman Jasiczak and drummer Oliver Beck had enough power, to hold up the mood high in the little crowd in the MarX. // http://www.motorjesus.net // Rating: 7 / 10
