Rock unter den Eichen: Löschzug 23, Tarabas, Blackest Dawn, Nachtgeschrei and Letzte Instanz

After an hour of driving, we finally arrived at Bertingen in the middle of nowhere. We went to the festival area and saw that the stage was pretty small and we were excited to see how the concerts would be. Since bands like NACHTGESCHREI and LETZTE INSTANZ were going to perform, it was promised to be a great night that day.

Löschzug 23

LÖSCHZUG 23 was founded in 1998. They play hardcore-punk and old school. The band is from Burg, Saxony-Anhalt.

Music & Performance
LÖSCHZUG 23 already performed a couple of times in the city I am from and I wasn’t really excited to see them since they play some kind of punk/rock stuff. The band entered the stage and the singer was really funny. He talked to the audience, made a lot of jokes and was just happy to be there. The rest of the band was just standing on their spot on stage and played their instruments.
I didn’t really like the music they were playing. It sounded like they didn’t really know what kind of music they wanted to play. Some songs really sounded like punk, another one like some kind of weird music. I don’t know. It was a strange mix of different styles of music. The only thing that saved this band from the total breakdown was the singer who was such a funny guy you couldn’t resist laughing about his jokes. The sound wasn’t the best either and the lights were gone, there was no light at all.

Tarabas

The Band TARABAS is from Magdeburg (Germany) and was founded by bassist Steve Kuhnert and guitarist and vocalist (screams) Alexander "Kutte" May. After a short time guitarist and vocalist (growls) Karl-Ludwig "Ludo" Stephan and drummer Cassian "Cas" Heim joined the band. This constellation has not changed up to date.

Music & Performance
The friends I met before the concert told me that TARABAS was worth to see and so I hoped it would be a good concert. And actually, it was. Since I haven’t seen them before, I was really surprised by their music. They are a newcomer band but still know how to rock the stage. The people in the audience had a lot of fun and so had I. I just loved it. The guys were really friendly to the people and after about 30 minutes, they had to quit the concert which was actually pretty sad because I really liked the band. The sound was ok. It started out pretty bad but it became better. All in all, it was a really good concert and I won’t forget it.

Blackest Dawn

The band was founded under the name of FINAL PUNCH in fall 2002 by Jörg Jüdes, Jörg Kosinski and André Jüdes. In winter 2002, Markus Kelb (bass) joined the band. Then, they changed the name into BLACKEST DAWN. BLACKEST DAWN successfully combines different music styles to an ultimate force of heavy music, which knows to make a difference in the nowadays often mentioned term of music Metalcore. They describe their music as an interesting mix of metal influenced melodies, neck breaking mosh-riffs and aggressive attacking hardcore parts. The music truly comes from the heart of every member of the band, because they put all their effort into their music. The will and the energy to make a great performance can be seen at every gig of BLACKEST DAWN.

Music & Performance
The band came on stage and I didn’t know what to expect since I hadn’t seen them before. The music wasn’t really my style. They played some kind of weird hardcore stuff. They had two singers who started singing at the time which wasn’t too good because they sounded pretty bad together. Actually, the whole music wasn’t really my kind of taste. They were really funny and that made it a little better but still, it wasn’t my music and I didn’t really like them.

Nachtgeschrei

NACHTGESCHREI was founded in 2006. They play medieval music. The members were formerly in bands like BLACK SHEEP and PAIMON. In 2008, they released their first album ‘Hoffnungsschimmer’ at Massacre Records. Since their founding they play at different festivals such as the Miroque Festival.

Music & Performance
They started playing and I was so surprised to see how good they were. The singer’s voice was just amazing and the people really knew how to rock the stage. They had a huge variety of instruments. I didn’t even know all of those. With songs like ‘3 Lügen’ or ‘Reise zu den Seen’ they showed how talented they were. The band was really young but still, they were one of the best bands I have ever seen in my life. They opened up a new world to the audience. They created dreams of wonderful music. The concert was just awesome. The band had lots of energy. The members were jumping around on stage and I just loved it! The sound was pretty good and the lights were, too. It was pretty sad when they quit the concert after about an hour. I will surely get their CD and will keep track of they will do in the future.

Letzte Instanz

These musicians have always been synonymous with movement, departures and courageousness, the line-up having changed several times before LETZTE INSTANZ got together in their current constellation in 2005. The line-up, consisting of artists from Saxony, Bavaria and Berlin, is a novelty on the German music scene, last but not least due to their unusual composition, and together they are among the spearheads of the German rock music scene, relying not on short-lived trends but standing in the tradition of German-language musicians, striving for expression and independence. LETZTE INSTANZ have always opted for artistic independence and against flirting with commercial success. Last year’s album ‘Ins Licht’ (into the light) proved impressively that they are on the right path. High chart positions, successful gigs, and towards the end of the year a tour alongside SCHANDMAUL proved that LETZTE INSTANZ are among the most popular and original acts on the German music landscape.

Music & Performance
LETZTE INSTANZ showed all their skills and delivered a feeling that was incredible. They didn’t only play pieces of the new album but also some old famous ones like ‘Das Stimmlein’ (where the audience was a big part of with their singing and jumping) or ‘Rapunzel’ (which was definitely one of the best songs that night). Some solos of the violin and the guitar just perfected the music at this concert. The mix of the cello, the violin, the bass and guitars, the drums and the stunning vocals completed the sounds to music that development an atmosphere nobody could escape. Since their last album ‘Das Weisse Lied’ was an acoustic album, they played a song as an acoustic piece. It was awesome! Don’t forget about B. Cellini, playing an instrument that matches to his name - the cello. He really gets your attention first of all with his cello which looks different than others because it’s thin and wavy and just... different. Rocking the stage they had the audience clapping their hands and singing their songs in one big choir. I guess I wasn’t the only one thinking they could have played another hour.
