Album Review

It seems like Finnish band BLACK LIGHT DISCIPLINE tried to embrace the unembraceable in their music and, surprisingly they succeeded. Nowadays there’s a tendency to merge synthetic sound and metal melodies so a smoother form of such merging can be noticed even in early Darkwave. So with the debut work entitled ‘Empire’, the Finns turned on all levers to the maximum: strict rhythmic electronic sound amazes with its diversity which was, maybe, achieved thanks to the blending with metal. Actually a rare electronic project pleases with so various and interesting synthetic arrangements. As for the instrumental component, there’s also nothing to criticize: everything is made very qualitatively, aggressively and at the same time, harmoniously.

The musicians managed to preserve this harmony balancing on the verge between two different styles however some songs lack for beautiful solos or more diverse instrumental parts. The vocals deserve some attentions as well: the natural deep voice, overtones of which remind of the ones of Jyrki 69 from THE 69 EYES or Ville Valo from HIM, so maybe such overtones are typical for Finns, alternates with the growling in the best traditions of death metal and screaming. As a result of the above-mentioned fusion fans of heavy and, I guess, electronic music will enjoy a very solid material as the album almost fascinates already after the first listening.
