 Title: 21st Century Slave Artist: Dope Stars Inc. Genre: Industrial, Rock, Cyberpunk Release Date: 10th July 2009 Label: Trisol Album Review The Italian cyberpunks of DOPE STARS INC. are back! The long-player `21st Century Slave´ is the second release this year after the EP `Criminal Intents´. Let’s have a look at the visual appearance of the recent piece of work. It will be a delight for all collectors, as the limited first edition is a digi-pack including a comprehensive booklet. True to the motto “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, let’s listen to the album whose title was well-chosen, as the sound brilliantly represents a technoid, dirty and morbid world full of seductions and depths. In my opinion, the record could be the perfect soundtrack accompanying a dark film adaption of a comic hero’s tale. The opener `Omegadrones´ is a punch in the gut: It’s aggressive, raging, but somehow sexy and sets the tone of the upcoming pieces. As usual, distorted Synth sounds and forceful Industrial beats dominate the varied soundscape, but it would be a mistake to assume that the band only worked with high-speed roughness. For example, the catchy `When I see you smile´ comes up with many Pop influences and nearly mellifluous vocals. The up-tempo dance track `Digital Warriors´ contains a lot of sound effects that make the song ideally suited for use as a computer game’s musical theme. The last track `It’s for you´ is surprisingly organic and - packaged in a bittersweet melody - a stunning declaration of love that will even impress sensitive souls. To sum up, DOPE STARS INC. created an amazingly interesting and very exciting album that will work fantastically live on stage - I’m sure! Tracklist 01.
