 Title: Needles and Control Artist: Project-X Genre: Electronic Release Date: 10th February 2010 Label: Memento Materia Single Review The Swedes behind PROJECT-X have a long history in electronic music and various big bands have influenced the trio to become what they are today. One that had a particular great deal of influence JOY DIVISION! That’s why they’re paying tribute to this band on their new single with one of their most known songs: ‘She’s Lost Control’. Not even the most forward-thinking mind back then, I guess, would have thought of a remake like that with razor-sharp distorted synth rhythms and a particularly worked out club appeal. However, the classic character and special raw charm of the original never gets lost. Claus Larsen aka LEAETHER STRIP has taken on the task to do another rendition that begins with a memorable bass line and a sample to segue into a track that is 100% LEAETHER STRIP melodic EBM. The first of the two new tracks goes by the name of ‘Needle’ and leaks under your skin with a menacing undertone that develops throbbing pulses, pumping through your veins, getting increasingly harder with every passing second. The slightest glimpse of this track reveals the production skills of the trio, to pile up a layer monolith and still making it sound like a clean and simple club song. ‘Is This What You Wanted’ pushes through the membranes with the cold and logical precision of a machine but is adding to it the brooding rage only an emotional being can produce. I have just been introduced to PROJECT-X with this very single but am already convinced they’re going to come from behind the pack and conquer the club landscape with those tracks.
