amphi2013 flyerDear Amphi Fans,

temperatures are dropping below and snow keeps falling silently, while gloves, caps and ice-scrapers become your usual morning survival gear. Yet, let´s not waste our thoughts on hibernation, hence all too thrilling tidings arrived, adding even more colour to the well-assorted programme of the Amphi Festival 2013, including two artists, never seen at the Tanzbrunnen so far:

NEW CONFIRMATIONS: PHILLIP BOA & THE VOODOOCLUB
ANNE CLARK + ATARI TEENAGE RIOT + A LIFE [DIVIDED]

He´s a full-blood musician and an undisputed character-head of remarkable history and highly influential works, who defined a style of his own. In a word: PHILLIP BOA is one of a kind! With his Band PHILLIP BOA & THE VOODOOCLUB, founded in 1984, the native Westphalian has been well-accounted as an important shaper of the European independent scene, who contributed his original concept of pop-blended avant-garde. Yet again, BOA nowadays appears to be more relevant than ever. When the latest album „Loyalty“ boosted to Number 13 of the German album charts, it marked the highest entry for his band to-date and gave evidence that a distinct artistic vision not instantly excludes commercial success. Thus we are very excited to have PHILLIP BOA & THE VOODOOCLUB joining the Amphi Festival for the first time!

The 80’s,… a decade of pastel-colored suits, shoulder–pads and worn out tennis-socks. An era of blow-dry hairstyle and aerobic-classes accompanied by tunes of Samantha Fox and Modern Talking. Although 80’s pop-culture managed to project its colorful imagery on common society, new wave, post-punk and synth-pop posed a more sinister anti-pole to the upfront low-brow happiness. Especially England proved to be an undying source of creativity and musical genius to spread all over Europe, spawning timeless heroes, who maintained their influence ever since. Amidst that artistic maelstrom, ANNE CLARK carved herself into the history-books of the 80’s era with songs like “Sleeper In Metropolis”, “Our Darkness” or “Wallies“, which stand like memorials for eternity. Hymnic tunes, that even survived the Techno-Revival of the 90s, by sheer timelessness. Not by chance ANNE CLARK´s concerts are always far beyond sole sequencer tracks added up with vocals, they evolve to an emotional journey into a rich universe of electronic and organic sounds.

“Are they too hard, you are too weak!“, this motto of a well known German TV commercial could be applied perfectly to the electro-punk institution ATARI TEENAGE RIOT from Berlin. Roused to digital riot from head to toe, mastermind Alec Empire and his crew still dispose of an impressive left hook, after 20 years into the career, while in the background the powerful ATARI ST presents its bulky 16 bit muscles. Expecting the adrenaline rush of the Amphi weekend you ought to keep an eye on this dance for sure!

Furthermore we recruited A LIFE [DIVIDED]. The electro-rockers around frontman and „Eisbrecher“-guitarrist Jürgen Plangger launched their brand new album „The Great Escape“ into orbit on 18. January and picked the opportunity to open the Amphi Festival 2013 with a mighty e-rock smasher, in order to give you a memorable beginning of the festival weekend!
