prodigy tour2015THE PRODIGY are the unquestioned superstars of British club culture with 20 million sold records worldwide. Their unique mix of techno, rave, big beat, jungle, Drum’n’Bass, acid house, punk and electronic Hardcore has found millions of fans regardless of the genre for more than 20 years. They are the only ones who won an MTV music award for “best alternative act” and “best dance act” in the same year. The British trio came back impressively with their current record ‘The Day is My Enemy’ on 27th March which immediately stirred up the international charts, landed in the top 10 in Germany and Austria as well as Switzerland and reached the very top in their British home country. THE PRODIGY are coming back again for four shows in Oberhausen, Hamburg, Munich and Frankfurt from 6th to 10th November after sold out shows in spring and headliner shows at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park.

The history of THE PRODIGY began in 1990 when techno was still in its infancy. Band mastermind Liam Howlett was hip hop DJ and break-dancer back then and wasn't in any way involved with the freshly emerging scene. He only gave attention to harder club sounds with the revival of acid house. He got to know Keith Flint first at a party and shortly after that Keith Palmer who had already collected merits as an MC under the name Maxim Reality. Another companion joined with Leeroy Thornhill who already left the project baptised The Prodigy in 2000.

The band had great successes in England from the start. Already the first singles ‘Charly’ and ‘Everybody in the Place’ climbed up to the top three of the charts, the debut ‘Experience’ reached position twelve. Not only did they have their international breakthrough with ‘Music For the Jilted Generation’ which was released in 1994 – the record is considered the start and blueprint for innovative electronic music to this day which unites all known genres from house to techno. Hits like ‘No Good’, ‘Voodoo People’ and ‘Poison’ are considered classics and are still played in clubs. But THE PRODIGY wanted more – they looked for the absolutely new, never heard before. This worked out with ‘The Fat of the Land’ which was released in 1997. They moved from classic techno with singles like ‘Firestarter’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ and created a new genre: the big beat which granted electronic music a fresh aesthetic full of broken beats, punk sounds and powerful vocals. THE PRODIGY finally rose to the range of superstars. They won numerous prices for the record, were nominated for two Grammys and played a triumphant world tour.

On the zenith of their career, THE PRODIGY seemed to be overrun by a creative crisis: They had strongly revolutionised dance and club music – what was to come now? The members took a multiannual break and presented solo records, among others ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’ by Liam Howlett which was released under the name THE PRODIGY without the involvement of his two band colleagues in 2004. Only in 2006 did the trio come back together and the incredibly forceful comeback record ‘Invaders Must Die’ was released in 2009. They released the sixth studio record at the end of March on which THE PRODIGY have evolved consistently. They play in their very own genre which doesn't know any borders and draws on everything which is powerful, lashing and intense.
