Every year in May one special birthday comes on: the harbour of Hamburg, Germany, going to turn proudly 825 years old. It is one of the biggest harbour celebrations in the world with about 70,000 visitors. You can find many shows and a motley program over the whole weekend. For all of the Metal heads one program point is very interesting: the Hafen Rock Festival. The festival is a fixed component on this weekend. It is not yet so old like the harbour, but is going to take place for the 21st time. The first concerts already start on Friday noon, some hours before the official opening worship in the main church St. Michaelis and the famous incoming parade of the ships.
The festival contents out of three stages, the Astra Hafenrock Stage, the Jolly Roger Stage and the Gipsy Lounge. All stages are open air and on the terrain of the harbour. Because the Hafen Rock belongs to the program of the Hafengeburtstag, the entrance to all places is free!The main stage is the Astra Hafenrock Stage. Astra is the most popular beer in Hamburg and symbolizes pure Rock and Metal. So the Astra Stage offers right this. The highlights in 2014 will be DARK AGE, who are Melodic Death Metal right out of Hamburg and EMIL BULLS, Alternative Metal coming from the other end of Germany, Munich. Both will perform on Saturday night. Other big sizes like DIE TOTEN ÄRZTE, a cover band which mixes up the songs of DIE TOTEN HOSEN and DIE ÄRZTE, two of the most famous German Punk-Rock bands, CHEVYDEVILS, Rockabilly from Hamburg and RESTLESS, Punk-Rock from Bavaria will let the hearts beat higher of the mosh-glad people.
At the Jolly Roger Stage, all fans of Reggae, Punk, Folk and Ska will be perfectly entertained. Many German acts perform there, from well-known to newcomers and local heroes. The last stage is the Gipsy Lounge. It is another kind of stage. Here you find Jazz music and much, like the name says it, Gipsy music.
