Deichkind – “Niveau Weshalb Warum ?!“
Those band commercial texts are horrendous! I don't believe that anyone will buy a ticket to see a band only because they have read this text. Have you ever read ‘The distinction’ by Pierre Bourdieu? Where do you actually want to go? Oh well, this text was certainly written by someone who already belongs to the upper class. But not everyone wants to go to the top! And they should also be able to decide whether they want to have tomatoes thrown at them by a music group (or whether it actually pays off).
And now something completely different: Many have tried desperately to copy DEICHKIND's home-made shows and their music that has always been independent of trends, fashion and the Zeitgeist like a sandwich with salt has been avant-garde for years now. Now their cultural distance from the mainstream can only be measured in light years. BAM! I, the author of those lines, rigid from veneration, and wondering observer of this extra-terrestrial phenomenon was allowed to accompany a highly specialised group working with highest precision in their many production sites in the last few months. This way, I got an insight into the conditions under which DEICHKIND's art and probably art in general can develop and under which it should develop in my opinion.
Something upbeat needs to be included again at this stage! The development team for music and shows work at such a spacy level which can only be understood as a colourful, blazing light show, a genius aurora among the usually dark cultural horizon. My texts are of course excluded from this criticism. (By the way, I am very good-looking.)
While DEICHKIND's music team fuses panpipes with punk, guitar with gabba, drum beats with can beer into incredible sounds on an astoundingly high level, a stage show is created by a hundred talented tinkerers in a cave labyrinth, a few kilometres underneath the Jinping dam and far away from cosmic background noises. A stage show that has come closer to the answer of the question whether there is a world formula for existence than the few lukewarm experiments of some unimaginative Nobel laureates at the CERN, the Nuclear Research organisation. Have you fallen asleep yet? There's more to come. Maybe something with a cry for help from the booze labyrinth?
The firmly fixed DEICHKIND symbols “Pyramide”, “Müllsack” (engl. Bin bag), “LED”, ”Zitze” (engl. Tits) and “Fass” (engl. Barrel) have become the semiotic corner pillar of a cultural cosmos which calls all narcisstic individualisation tendencies comfortably to a halt. At the same time, the text generates an intellectual horizon which can be even put up with by the angsty generation Y like a super warm blanket. Tits. Almost meaningless cluster of cells can be synchronised by the perfectly aligned music through subtle oscillations with the ominous world soul so that you will experience a feeling that only a few of the chosen ones will experience even though numerous commercials claim otherwise: peace.

DEICHKIND have found an easy and precise answer to our questions where physics hit the wall and psychology taps in the dark, where art can only assume and religion begins to stutter. An answer that lets us gape like children and that lets us experience a healing stream of genuine happiness and deepest grief, confusing psychoses and transpersonal hallucinations, blind trust and hungry fears which wash away the sharp pain of endless loneliness from our utterly maltreated souls.
