downbelow muttersturmLonging lunging into the sea!

Just one year after the release of the sonorous record ‘Zur Sonne - Zur Freiheit’, DOWN BELOW's fifth opus entitled ‘Mutter Sturm’ will come out on October 30th. Taking courage and a big step forward, the result might be considered the best album the band from Dessau-Roßlau, Germany, has ever produced. DOWN BELOW remain faithful to the label Oblivion/SPV.

As the album title ‘Mutter Sturm’ (in English, ‘Mother Storm’) already suggests, the guiding theme of the 12 songs are the powerful forces of water and boisterous wind. DOWN BELOW have the guts to revisit the days of old and combine this playfully and easily with new influences, heaviness, and great melodies. Orchestral and epic seeming moments like, for example, on ‘Zur Sonne Zur Freiheit’ as well as synthetic soundscapes stand equally side by side. Once again ‘Mutter Sturm’ shows true grit presenting a vast imagery and distinct tunes. DOWN BELOW go back to and bethink of their roots, and this quite literally.

Seafaring is a tradition within their familiar realms. They are diving into the deep, out on the ocean, into the vastness of the soul and into the profundity of emotions. Possibly the forthcoming album ‘Mutter Sturm’ is also reminiscent of the last high tide of the century. It is life at and on the water, storm tides, seafaring, and the stories that life itself writes which make up the piers of probably the most authentic album the unswerving FOUR have made so far.
