Sea + Air & Support: Mister & Mississippi

The way little Greece manages to challenge big Germany and whole Europe, is one thing. But how one can make use of the tension between both countries in a musical way is perfectly shown by the Greek-German couple Eleni Zafiriadou and Daniel Benjamin from SEA + AIR. Recently, their second album, ‘Evropi’ (‘Europe’ in Greek), has been released through the label Glitterhouse. On the album, which immediately made #49 in the German charts, SEA + AIR weave impressions of their tour across 22 countries, which lasted through years, together with Eleni Zafiriadou's family history that is almost one hundred years old.

The band is going to present the new songs from ‘Evropi’ at 14 shows in January in addition to the already known dates this November. On January 15, they will be at the FZW in Dortmund. These performances will give you the chance to admire the virtuosity of SEA + AIR once again in the new year. Both musicians can play up to five instruments at the same time, thereby, being able to reproduce the orchestral sound of their album in an incredible manner.

Since their formation four years ago, SEA + AIR have played over 600 concerts in 22 countries. They have also performed at the TV shows “Inas Nacht” (ARD), “Berlin live” (Arte), “Cool Tour - After Midnite” (Rai5), “TV Noir” (ZDF), and “SWR latenight” (SWR) being guests at the most prestigious TV shows for newcomers in Germany, France, and Italy. The singles from their debut album ‘My Heart’s Sick Chord’ reached most campus and indie radio charts. In addition, SEA + AIR have composed soundtracks while being on the road, for example, for the movies by Michael Verhoeven (“Heißkalte Seele”), the award winning “Schuld sind immer die Anderen” by Lars-Gunnar Lotz, and the Arte documentary “Das Dorf der Stille”.

They have also received the “Swabian Grammy,” a music award of the region Stuttgart, for being the best newcomer and the Canadian prize “Streaming Cafe Indie Recording Grant.” This year, SEA + AIR were also awarded the “Deutscher Musikautorenpreis” (German music author's award) for the category “young talents.” And their new album lives up to this success. Same as the predecessor, ‘Evropi’ has been received enthusiastically by the press. So, Zeit.de writes: “’Evropi’ is an artistic triumph. […] It's big cinema […].” And according to Musix, “it sounds absolutely unique, it's the most exciting thing there currently is in the field of indie folk rock, and one can look forward to gripping concerts.”

MISTER & MISSISSIPPI are four musicians from Utrecht, the Netherlands, who make all indie hearts leap for joy at their shows with their folky sound. In 2013, they celebrated their first triumphs with their same-named and award-winning debut album: #1 at the Alternative as well as iTunes charts in the first week after its release. Now, they are celebrated for their new album ‘We Only Part To Meet Again’. MISTER & MISSISSIPPI are melancholic and passionate, their album ecstatic and full of emotion. The voices of the two vocalists Maxime Barlag and Samgar Jacobs and the mellow guitar sounds by Danny van Tiggele and Tom Broshuis make sure of it.
